Privacy Policy

1. Introduction
TV Watch Time ("we", "us", "our") is a TV and movie tracking application that lets you log what you watch, build statistics, rate content, and discuss it with a community. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.
By creating an account or using TV Watch Time, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, you may delete your account at any time (see Section 8 — Your Rights).
2. Data We Collect
To provide the service, we collect and store the following data:
- Account information: email address, username, display name, and an optional bio.
- Profile media: optional avatar and cover images.
- Watch history: the TV shows and movies you mark as watched, including seasons, episodes, timestamps, and runtime minutes.
- Ratings: ratings you give to shows, seasons, episodes, or movies.
- Comments: text comments and images you post.
- Comment images: image files attached to comments.
- Device push tokens: Expo push tokens used to deliver optional episode notifications.
- Security data: authentication tokens and limited audit logs needed to operate the service.
3. How We Use Data
- To provide tracking features (marking episodes, calculating progress and watch-next).
- To display personalized statistics, watch history, and progress.
- To show comments, ratings, and images you and others post in the community.
- To send optional push notifications about new episodes of shows you follow.
- To secure your account and prevent abuse.
4. Third-Party Services
We rely on the following third-party services to operate the app:
- TMDb — used to look up TV and movie metadata (titles, posters, descriptions, episode counts).
- TVmaze — used to fetch episode air dates and times.
- OpenAI — used to automatically moderate comment images before they are published.
- Expo — used to deliver push notifications to your device.
- Google / Facebook — optional OAuth providers for login. You may also sign up with email and password.
Each provider has its own privacy policy. We only send the minimum data required for the feature to work.
5. Data Storage
- Primary database: your account, watch history, ratings, and comments are stored in a PostgreSQL database.
- Comment images: stored encrypted with AES-256-GCM (each image wrapped with its own data key) in S3-compatible object storage (Amazon S3 or MinIO), or on local server disk when self-hosted.
- Avatar / cover images: stored in S3-compatible object storage, or as local files on the server.
6. Data Retention
We keep your data for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account, your data is removed as described in Section 8. We may retain limited logs for a short period to ensure security and prevent abuse.
7. No Selling of Data
8. Your Rights
- Export your data: you can request an export of your watch history and account data.
- Delete your account: you can permanently delete your account and all associated data. Request data deletion here, or via the app settings. Deletion removes: watch history, ratings, comments, watchlists, favorites, profile, and all other data. This cannot be undone.
- Correct your data: you can edit your display name, bio, and avatar at any time.
9. Self-Hosted Option
TV Watch Time is open to self-hosting. You may run your own backend instance, in which case you control 100% of your data. None of your watch history, comments, or images pass through our servers when you self-host. Push notifications, when enabled in relay mode, only forward a minimal push payload through our public relay to Expo.
10. Cookies & Local Storage
The mobile app does not use advertising or tracking cookies. Authentication is handled with a JWT (JSON Web Token) that is stored only in the device's secure storage (SecureStore / Keychain / Keystore) and is never written to plain local storage or shared with third parties. The website may use essential local storage for session convenience, but stores no tracking identifiers.
11. Children's Privacy
TV Watch Time is not directed at children. You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has registered, please contact us and we will delete the account.
12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes, we will notify you in the app or by email. Continued use of TV Watch Time after a change takes effect means you accept the revised policy.
13. Contact
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or your data, please contact us at ttvwatchtime@gmail.com.
